They are found on coasts worldwide apart from the polar regions and some tropical regions of Africa and South-East Asia. A pair of Oystercatchers can nest on the island of a former gravel pit and move up and down a river valley, to feed in wet grassland, pastures and arable fields, or hatch their chicks on the flat roof of a school and probe for worms on the playing fields.
