Welsh Royal Bank of Scotland branch

A Welsh version of the RBS name for a Welsh branch in 2011. Destined to be a thing of the past, as the English and Welsh branches of RBS are due for sell-off. For the uninitiated, the government support package that stopped RBS collapsing in 2009 resulted in a requirement that the 300-odd branches of RBS in England and Wales be sold off. The plan has changed many times. A planned sell-off to Santander collapsed. Then RBS decided to create and float a new standalone bank using these branches, the NatWest branches in Scotland and the long-dormant Williams and Glyn brand they owned. By summer 2016, questions about the financial viability of the proposed new business and the difficulty of creating a new IT infrastructure saw the plan shelved. Branches like this one are now back on the market - and may yet end up with Santander, five years later on!
