A strange and somehow familiar building - is Sligo Townhall

This very fine Stereo Pairs image of a familiar building shows it in great detail and clarity in a way that we will probably never see it again? I love the windows in particular and the imposing majesty of the building. The first time I ever saw it back in the 1950's I thought it was a palace! With thanks in particular today to sharon.corbet, beachcomberaustralia, Niall McAuley, and Nl042 we have additional detail on this building - which is Sligo Townhall. As it was opened in c.1872, and as we cannot see the nearby gatehouse which was built c.1876, the date range for this image (in a manner not always possible for STP images) has been refined to just a few years in the mid-1870s.... Photographers: Frederick Holland Mares, James Simonton Contributor: John Fortune Lawrence Collection: Stereo Pairs Photograph Collection Date: Catalogue range c.1860-1883. But likely c.1872-1876 NLI Ref: STP_2411 You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie
