La Rochelle, The Saint-Nicholas tower (France)

The Saint-Nicholas tower (Tour Saint-Nicolas) stands on the south bank of the port, opposite the Chain tower (Tour de la Chaîne). Its role was to protect the port from dangers coming from the ocean. The construction of the tower Saint Nicolas (the tower more has left) was begun in 1372 and was finished in 1376.
