Early morning hike on Inner Basin Trail, San Francisco Peaks. 2009-05-30: Saturday evening, we were sitting on the front porch after our evening walk, enjoying a cup of chai and watching the sun set. There had been rain during the late afternoon, and heavy clouds had descended over the Peaks, hiding the mountain from view. The clouds had lifted in time for our evening ritual, and we noticed there was new snow on the upper tips of the Peaks. As we sipped our tea, we joked â€œIf we were really motivated, weâ€™d get up early, hit the Inner Basin Trail at dawn, and get some good photos before the snow melts offâ€¦â€ 2009-05-31: â€¦so, at 4:00AM we stumbled out of bed, grabbed some coffee, got dressed, grabbed more coffee and rolled out the door around 4:30AM. We drove up the mountain, and hit the trail around 5:15AM. There was a bit of a breeze making the hike rather chilly. Everything was wet and green, and the aspens created a delectable aroma. Past Jack Spring (1.5 miles from the trailhead) we hit the frost line, and the vegetation sparkled (and the air was noticeably chillier). We arrived at the Inner Basin (the point where thereâ€™s a shelter and pumphouse, and all the Peaks are visible) around 6:45AM. Weâ€™d expected some shade still at that hour, and were delighted to discover the sun was shining right up through the low point in the Peaks (the north-eastern side, where the wall was blown out during an eruption), lighting up the entire Inner Basin for us. Bus ticket machine, Viby Torv. What's so special about this, you may ask? Well... it's actually working! Back in 2011 a new citybus network was introduced in Aarhus. Part of that project involved the purchase of several ticket machines, like this one, to be placed at traffical key points in Aarhus. But there was a small problem: the new machines didn't work... something about technical incompatabilities, they said... but they were working on it, and all should soon be solved. Some time passed... the tech guys were still "working on it" and some progress was apparently being made. To prove the point, it was decided to set up the first machine, on Viby Torv (yes, this one), so that the system could undergo the final tests. So Viby got the first machine... hoorah! After a few days of testing, the system crashed completely, and it was back to the drawing board for the techs. Meanwhile, the poor machine just sat there, saying "out of order" Every now and then the media would write about these pesky machines, and ask if they would ever be fixed. And every time the answer would be along the lines of "we hope to have them ready very soon" Well, in february 2014 it finally happened, after a delay of 2Â½ years, the ticket machine on Viby Torv became operational and soon after the other ones were installed around the city. July Flower

Rain! More rain! I am okay with all the rain, but I still like to see the colourful flowers. It is fortunate that flowers also can be grown indoors. There is so much choice. The indoor flowers can be any colour or size one wants. The other good thing about indoor flowers is that they can be moved around at any time. Some indoor flowers even need no water, food or soil. That all changed in the 1920s when the government decided to build what would become the Ala Wai Canal, which would drain the wetlands and pave the way for later development. These days, this 1.5 mile (2.4 km) stretch of white sand beach is the nucleus of Hawaii's tourist industry, packed full of high-rise hotels that promise to treat you like a king, some of which may also require a king's ransom for admission. Although it is often criticized for its concrete-jungle appearance, large crowds, and touristy feel, there is a lot to enjoy here and you can still find a quiet spot if you know where to look. Ravages of Time

In the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada lies Bodie Ghost Town, a mining town that was eventually abandoned after the mine did not render enough profits anymore. This place is a photographerâ€™s dream: Some of the wooden houses crumble, while others are still in relatively good shape, even the interior looks exactly like it did when people left, wasnâ€™t it for the obvious ravages of time. Old cars and machines lie there in decay, rusted way beyond patina. It is a flashback in time, allowing to use ones fantasy to imagine how life once was. Bodie was one of our favourites so far, probably because we didnâ€™t know much about it and thus expected nothing.

Qianmen street

The redevelopment of Qianmen street, a road known for its historical heritage, have been completed. Qianmen, or Heaven Gate in Chinese, located directly south to the Tian'anmen Square, and is considered the most important gate of Beijing's old city wall. The Qianmen Street is a historical royal street south of the gate, and for one time was Beijing's most prosperous shopping district. It has seen some decline in recent years, but even in its most gloomy time there were still scores of shops running business on the Street at the same locations that could date back to the 1900-1920 era. Besides the old shops, tens of thousands of Beijingers also resides by the street and call it home.

As we sipped our tea, we joked â€œIf we were really motivated, weâ€™d get up early, hit the Inner Basin Trail at dawn, and get some good photos before the snow melts offâ€¦â€ 2009-05-31: â€¦so, at 4:00AM we stumbled out of bed, grabbed some coffee, got dressed, grabbed more coffee and rolled out the door around 4:30AM. We drove up the mountain, and hit the trail around 5:15AM. There was a bit of a breeze making the hike rather chilly. Everything was wet and green, and the aspens created a delectable aroma. Past Jack Spring (1.5 miles from the trailhead) we hit the frost line, and the vegetation sparkled (and the air was noticeably chillier). We arrived at the Inner Basin (the point where thereâ€™s a shelter and pumphouse, and all the Peaks are visible) around 6:45AM. Weâ€™d expected some shade still at that hour, and were delighted to discover the sun was shining right up through the low point in the Peaks (the north-eastern side, where the wall was blown out during an eruption), lighting up the entire Inner Basin for us. Jack Smith Spring. Early morning hike on Inner Basin Trail, San Francisco Peaks. 2009-05-30: Saturday evening, we were sitting on the front porch after our evening walk, enjoying a cup of chai and watching the sun set. There had been rain during the late afternoon, and heavy clouds had descended over the Peaks, hiding the mountain from view. The clouds had lifted in time for our evening ritual, and we noticed there was new snow on the upper tips of the Peaks.
