Instead of an iPhone...

Friend and colleague Dr Coop shows her love for her new Asus, a $400 Linux powered teeny tiny laptop. My first thought- its an iBook mini-me! But its all Linux, allt he time, and has apps that will do anything you need a laptop to do. And it will not be crunched by an airplane sudden lean backer. She, like many others in Arizona (ahem) would have bought an iPhone if not for the AT&T lockin- despite their glitz ads, their coverage in this state, even the Phoenix metro area... in a word... sucks. Up on the Mogollon Rim, the connectivity is worse to none. This was at a meetup of the Cyber Salon, a monthly get together started by my former colleagues at Maricopa. This was thie first one my cranky schedule allowed since August! I hope to make it to more, stay longer, etc. She sure looks happy, eh?
