Scale model of Accelerating Cavity built in 1988 - 1989 - Cern - Geneve - Genoa Italy As the particles speed down the collider, accelerating cavities give them more and more energy. ILC uses a new kind of technology, which had been developed at DESY, Hamburg: superconducting cavities fabricated from the metal niobium. The first superconducting radio-frequency module for CERN’s LHC collider is put into its vacuum tank. The modules will power the LHC beam to required energies.
