Decin Castle, Czech Republic

Photograph of Decin Castle, the most popular attraction in Decin, a town in the north of the Czech Republic, just over the German border, about 80 minutes north-east of Prague (Capital of Czech Republic). It is situated on a hill near the town centre and is overlooking the Labe river. Originally it was built as a fort during the Seven Years’ War, later rebuilt to a Renaissance castle in 1673, 1788. restored to Baroque. Once the home of Bohemian kings, later functioned as the administrative centre of the Thuns. In a modern history it became a military garrison for German and Soviet troops. Since 1932 in the hands of Czechoslovak State (later Czech Republic).
