Douglas walkway,West Coast, South Island, New Zealand.The Douglas Walk is an easy forest walk that takes you over ancient glacial landforms formed between 1600 AD and 1750 AD. The return walk to the carpark is via the glacier access road taking 15 minutes. The track starts on a river fan covered with 40-year-old shrub forest. Peters Pool viewpoint is about 10 minutes into the walk. Peters Pool is a kettle lake formed by melting buried ice about 1800 AD. The Franz Josef Glacier offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience a dynamic glacial environment, in a temperate environment, while being within easy driving and walking distance from the main highway.
