A Male Secretary Bird

A male secretary bird

A male secretary bird, Sagittarius serpentarius, roosting in a camel thorn tree in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park in South Africa and Botswana. It has loose black feathers behind its head that look like quills that were earlier used as pens. It walks through savannah grassland looking for insects, lizards, rodents and snakes, but it roosts in the tops of trees.
