The machine planer is used to (1) smooth a board of the roughness that is caused by milling with a saw, and (2) thicknessing the board to the desired size, in this case 3/4 inch for cabinet making. The wood is old growth bald-cypress, aka cypress, or sinker cypress, recovered from swamps in Louisiana.
